Nashville, Tenn. – Baptist Sports Medicine announced today that it will be offering a free seminar on concussions for area coaches and parents. The seminar, which is open to the public, will be held Saturday, March 8 from 10 a.m. to noon at Baptist Hospital in the Gladys Stringfield Owen Auditorium located on the 21st Avenue side of the hospital.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer this seminar to the athletes, parents and coaches in our community,” said Alex Pinto, athletic medicine director for Baptist Sports Medicine. “Baptist Sports Medicine is committed to minimizing the effects of concussions and education is the first step.”

The clinic will cover several topics including Best Medical Practices, Cutting Edge Technology and Quickened Return to Sport. Instructing the seminar are Dr. Jason Hubbard, a neurologist at Baptist and Saint Thomas Hospitals and concussion expert with the Howell Allen Clinic, Dr. Gary Soloman, a clinical psychologist at Baptist Hospital, Trent Nessler, managing director for Baptist Sports Medicine and Pinto.

This free clinic is the result of a partnership between Baptist Sports Medicine and Howell Allen Clinic. Area schools and sport associations who attend will gain free access to the concussion management program, ImPACT, used by the NFL and many other professional sports teams.

“Helping athletes get back in the game is among the highest of priorities in athletics and the ImPACT program allows us to better judge when those athletes are ready to return to play,” said Lauren Abramson, an athletic trainer at Hillsboro High School and associate of Baptist Sports Medicine.

This concussion clinic is part of an ongoing concussions management initiative by Baptist Sports Medicine. The rehabilitation staff also offers specialized, cutting edge post-concussion rehab programs that are designed to accelerate healing and return-to-participation.
