Nashville, Tenn. – Baptist Sports Medicine is pleased to announced the addition of a new service line, Women’s Health. The service will be available at Maryland Farms, Spring Hill and Downtown Plaza Baptist Sports Medicine clinics.
The new service will focus on incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction and offer physical therapy, manual therapy and exercise programs as methods of treatment.
“We are excited about being able to offer this critical service for our female patients suffering with these health problems,” said Trent Nessler, Managing Director of Baptist Sports Medicine. “Our experienced team will provide our patients much needed therapy essential to helping them feel like themselves again.”
Baptist Sports Medicine has hired three therapists, specializing in women’s health, to evaluate and treat female patients:
Sara UnderhillUnderhill is a graduate of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee. She has work experience with Results Physiotherapy and Methodist Germantown’s Women’s Health clinic. After completing her doctorate, she continues to take classes on pelvic floor physical therapy. Underhill is working towards a specialty in Women’s Health. She is a member of the Nashville Association of Sexual Health and the American Physical Therapy Association.
Cate LangleyLangley is a graduate of Belmont University. Langley has treated numerous Women’s Health diagnoses, including incontinence, pelvic floor dysfunction, pregnancy, and pelvic pain. After completing her doctorate, she continues to take courses specializing in Women’s Health and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. Langley is working towards a specialty in Women’s Health. She is a member of the Nashville Association of Sexual Health, the International Pelvic Pain Society, and the Women’s Health Section of the American Physical Therapy Association.
Trish KingKing has over 25 years of women’s health physical therapy practice including working at the University of Tennessee at Memphis Chronic Pelvic Pain Clinic where she participated in the first U.S. studies on utilization of physical therapy for chronic pelvic pain and serving as editor of the Journal of Women’s Health Physical Therapy. Currently she is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee, Memphis Department of Physical Therapy and a PhD candidate at the University of Florida in Medical Anthropology and Women’s/Gender Studies.
All of the Women’s Health therapists will assess patients with a full postural examination, focusing on the spine, hips, and pelvic floor. Manual therapy, postural re-education and muscle retraining and strengthening will be utilized to treat patients. Issues related to the problem, such as lifestyle and behavior, will also be addressed.
